Karen Ericson's Portfolio
It takes more than a developer writing code all day to create web sites. It takes people; it takes a system. My skills as a Business Systems Analyst enable me to define existing business processes so the web won't cause hardship for any of the departments that supply data. I am also able to analyze data integration issues and come up with solutions. As a Web Development Specialist, I led teams and ensured that all departments were represented and gave feedback before major applications were released for customers to use.
Setting up the web sites in my previous position included: system integration using XML, data compatibility using VBScript and ASP, design using PhotoShop, and usability testing from co-workers. I also have an art degree for site design. With technical writing experience, I am able to edit content before it's released. And, my experience doing data entry (from one of my earliest jobs) helps me understand how to design user interfaces that are logical and easy to use. I often use my own GUIs to test for usability.
This site contains a description of how I approach projects, short demos of sites I've designed and developed, a data mapping diagram (I designed the relational database in SQL), a business process flowchart (I designed the actual working process), my artwork and some photographs. It will give you an idea of what I can do. All graphics and html have been created by me, using PhotoShop, Illustrator, and HomeSite. I've designed this site to accomodate technical limitations from my hosting service.
