Mt. Rainier

I put together this web site out of fascination with Mt. Rainier. This site isn't an "official" web site. Just a fun one, with some interesting facts. I hope you enjoy it. My husband and I lived in Auburn for a few years. We saw the mountain even on cloudy days.

Mt. Rainier is a jewel in the Northwest crown. Its white peak rises in the background of Seattle, Washington. The mountain picks up the color of the sky, and can take on any color in the rainbow. Many mornings, as I drove to work, I saw a soft pink or purple mountain. Other mornings brought vibrant red and yellow clouds reflecting off the mountain's snowy peak.

Many people have tried to climb Mt. Rainier. It is a national park, an untaimed mountain. Mt. Rainier has many dangers like glacial crevasses, that can send hikers plummeting into the mountain. It also has roads and trails safe for tourists and kids. The drive through Mt. Rainier is beautiful. The viewpoints extraordinary.

I once knew a Seattle based non-profit group who trained street kids to climb to the top. They were called "Rainier in a Year." The kids are challenged to focus on teamwork and problem solving skills. They come through the experience with some new skills, and hopefully, the courage to change their lives.
