Customer Service Demo
The Customer Service portal was designed to help customers find solutions without having to call the Support team with every question. The challenge came when the main product expanded to encompass a suite of software tools. I worked with VPs to determine how we would manage security. The sites were all secure with limitations based on what products the customers purchased. Once we had the business rules, I still had the challenge to make each site easily accessible. The solution was to provide buttons at the top of the page. Each button represents access to a different product portal. As the developer, I realized I was the only one who knew what was happening on the sites. So, I set up a latest update box with links to changes on a monthly basis. I then sent an e-mail to Support so they could notify customers. Thanks to the suggestion of a co-worker, I added an archive link so customers could find links they'd used in the past. This process gave customers the confidence that we were updating the site, and the links were truly "Latest" Updates. For the banner, I used an image of a CD from an image source file. I used the Gradient Tool in PhotoShop to create the space for the logos. I created the icons on the home page using PhotoShop and actual Facets icons. The buttons were also created in PhotoShop. I coded the pages using Macromedia HomeSite, CSS, ASP, VBScript, JavaScript, SQL and a SQL database. The navigation was done using ssi (server side includes) files.
